Fellowships funded by the NIHR are available at multiple levels: pre-doctoral, doctoral, and advanced (post-doctoral).
A fellowship internship supports people to prepare an application. Interns are expected to dedicate around a day a week to enable them to prepare a robust application to the relevant NIHR funding call by the end of the internship. The work generally includes refining a project proposal; research skills training; networking with relevant stakeholders; PPIE work, scoping evidence and identification of organisational and academic support. Applicants must include a supervisor from at least one academic from one of the five ARC NWC universities. Backfill of £6,300 is provided to support the intern being awarded research time within their job role.
Calls for applications for NIHR fellowship internships are annual.
The next application deadline is 17th January 2027.
The internship application form can be accessed by clicking here. Please send any completed application forms to the ARC NWC Capacity Building team at arcnwc@lancashire.ac.uk
