Our Public Health and Prevention research focuses on improving population health and reducing health inequalities through early action.

We generate evidence on what works to prevent ill health before it starts, with a strong focus on communities experiencing the poorest outcomes. Our focus is on healthy places, household health resources and maximising equitable uptake of preventative interventions.

This includes research on the wider determinants of health such as housing, employment, income, environment, and access to services. We work closely with local authorities, public health teams, and community organisations to design and evaluate practical, real world prevention approaches. By strengthening the evidence base for prevention, we support healthier lives, reduced demand on services, and more equitable health outcomes across the North West Coast.

Key topics: public health research, prevention, health inequalities, early intervention, wider determinants of health, community health.
