ARC NWC PhD students present at a maternal and Infant Nutrition and Nurture conference

Earlier this year, in April, ARC NWC PhD students Becca Selby and Pippa Atkinson presented at ARC NWC’s member organisation University of Central Lancashire’s Maternal and Infant Nutrition and Nurture Unit’s (MAINN) eleventh international, interdisciplinary conference, Nutrition and Nurture in Infancy and Childhood: Bio-Cultural Perspectives, in Grange-Over-Sands.

This conference links closely with the international journal Maternal and Child Nutrition, with the lead editor (Dr Victoria Hall Moran) a member of the MAINN Unit.

The conference was filled to the brim with keynote speeches and concurrent sessions and both Becca and Pippa (pictured, above) presented during concurrent sessions and did some concurrent session chairing which was a good way to connect and network with more people at the conference.

Pippa’s research uses a narrative approach to understand how women from different socioeconomic backgrounds experience the revised UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative standards. She presented an overview of her research to date and shared the initial narrative findings from her study, which identify the commonalities and differences between the women’s experiences.

Becca’s research explores parent and carer perceptions of infant feeding health messages in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. Her presentation provided an overview of her research and progress to date and discussed some early findings.

The conference abstracts will now be published in a special Maternal and Child Nutrition issue.
