Public Health Research Fellow, Dr. Andy Pennington, joins ARC NWC to enhance population health

Dr. Andy Pennington, a public health researcher who specialises in population health inequalities, has joined Applied Research Collaboration North West Coast’s (ARC NWC) Improving Population Health theme.
Upon his appointment, Dr. Pennington expressed his eagerness to collaborate with all aspects of the ARC NWC collaboration, emphasising the opportunity to leverage research-driven strategies to improve health outcomes across the region. He said: “I am excited to join ARC NWC and contribute to its mission of promoting health equity by bridging the gap between research and practice.”

Andy brings a depth of experience in public health, health service, health inequalities, and individual and community empowerment research, gained over 22 years at the University of Liverpool. He originally trained as a town planner in Liverpool and has developed a passion for research on complex causes of health inequalities, including how social, cultural, economic, physical, and environmental conditions influence people’s health, wellbeing, and life chances. He is the Knowledge Synthesis lead for the Health Inequalities Policy Research unit (HIP-R) in the Department of Public Health, Policies and Systems. He is a renowned expert in applied research through systematic reviews, and health and wellbeing impact assessments.

Speaking about his new role as the Improving Population Health Research Fellow, Dr Pennington added: “I look forward to enriching ARC NWC’s collaborative efforts, and driving impactful community research initiatives to address health inequalities and improve health and well-being for all residents of the North West Coast.”
