HaCAL publish findings from Colombia Visit

Public Involvement and Engagement (PIE) Sub-Group in HaCAL publishes findings

During July, Dr Clarissa Giebel and Prof. Mark Gabbay (Senior Research Fellow and Director of ARC NWC) were finally able to conduct their first research visit to the Universidad de Antioquia, as part of their three-year ESRC-funded research project.

The project, led by Dr Giebel in the UK and Prof Maria Isabel Zuluaga in Colombia, is exploring the impact of stressful life events on the mental health of older adults. The research visit was severely delayed by the pandemic, but allowed both to understand the Colombian modern context much better. Trips included a cable car visit over notorious Comuna 13, plenty of talks and presentations, and meeting local community stakeholders who are key to getting the mental health intervention started. Watch this space for the first findings out soon, and more research visits to see the impacts of the community intervention on older adults.
