Four partnerships chosen to be part of the Health Foundation’s programme to reduce local health inequalities through economic development

Researchers from University of Liverpool’s Institute of Population Health and Heseltine Institute of Public Policy and Practice, are part of successful bid led by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (LCRCA) to the Health Foundation’s Economy for Healthier Lives Grant Programme.

One of only four awards made by the programme nationally, the £465,900 project brings together a partnership of public sector organisation and higher education institutions including the LCRCA, Local Councils, Public Health England, the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, community and voluntary sector organisations with the aim of improving the links between health and economic outcomes.

The three-year programme which builds upon the learning from existing labour market programmes including Households into Work and Ways to Work, will enable health and wellbeing to be incorporated across Liverpool City Region’s economic strategies, developing a unique integrated approach to labour market programmes bringing together health services and a wider social offer (e.g. welfare, housing, debt) with employment programmes.

It is anticipated that the successful implementation of this project will enable the LCR Combined Authority to drive forward its ambition as a member of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance, to place health and wellbeing as central objectives across all its economic strategies.
