Why Can’t You Be Normal: Addiction & Recovery Workshop

11th February, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join this 2-hour workshop exploring how involving lived experience participants is vital in addiction recovery work and research, featuring Made by Mortals’ powerful audio story Why Can’t You Be Normal.

We understand addiction and recovery are often misunderstood and reduced to oversimplified narratives. The truth is far more nuanced and complex. In this workshop, we’ll use Made by Mortals’ immersive audio, Why Can’t You Be Normal, co-created with parents in recovery, to explore the human stories behind the stereotypes.

Together we’ll discover how involving lived experience participants can:

Challenge biases and shift perceptions in addiction and recovery.
Add authenticity and depth to research and training.
Foster meaningful connections and inspire systemic change.
Benefit and empower those taking part.
As a researcher or professional, you have the power to create meaningful change. This workshop shows you how integrating lived experiences into your work can deepen understanding, challenge biases, and transform addiction and recovery practices.
