Dr Lisa Knight is Head of Innovation and Enterprise at LJMU’s Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology and Science, providing strategic leadership for enterprise and innovation, supporting Schools and academic teams to identify and develop opportunities that generate income and deliver impact. This includes shaping and implementing the Faculty’s enterprise strategy, building strong partnerships with industry and external stakeholders, and creating routes for commercialisation and knowledge exchange, whilst working to ensure that enterprise activity aligns with market needs and contributes to regional economic growth. As part of this remit, Lisa leads the LJMU Living Lab, an accredited member of the European Network of Living Labs (EnoLL), which provides a real-world environment for open innovation, co-creation and collaborative research with partners across health, industry and the wider community.
Lisa also acts as Co-Lead for the Workforce and System Resilience theme for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) in the north west coast region. NIHR ARCs are regional collaborations between organisations that support applied health and care research which responds to the needs of local populations and health and care systems. Lisa also holds an honorary research contract with NHS University Hospitals Liverpool Group.
Previously, Lisa was Head of External Engagement & Professional Programmes at Liverpool Business School, leading industry engagement and strategic partnerships, including a flagship collaboration with University Hospitals Liverpool NHS Trust. Lisa brings extensive experience in systems leadership, health and social care evaluation, and board-level governance across sectors, which informs her research on the development and implementation of systems and place-based leadership within the public sector. Her work explores how leadership frameworks can enhance service delivery and outcomes across health and social care. Additional interests include pedagogical approaches that underpin leadership development and capacity building, alongside process optimisation and continuous improvement (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt) to support data-driven decision-making.
Lisa has extensive board-level experience, having served as a Non-Executive Director and Chair across the private, public, and voluntary sectors. She is also a Trustee of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM), contributing to the governance of the professional body for medical leadership across the UK. Lisa is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, a Certified Management & Business Educator with the Chartered Association of Business Schools, and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute
